The 2020 Global Energy Internet (Asia) Conference opened in Beijing on Tuesday. The conference was initiated by the Global Energy Internet Development Cooperation Organization (HEREINAFTER referred to as the "Cooperation Organization") with the theme of "Green, low-carbon and sustainable Development". More than 1,000 guests from more than 40 countries and regions participated in the forum, focusing on the development of Energy and electricity in Asia and the construction of energy Internet in Asia.

Ali Shahbana, executive secretary of THE United Nations Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), said that Asia, with its high energy demand, high proportion of fossil energy and heavy emission reduction task, urgently needs to accelerate the transformation to green energy and low-carbon energy. "The Asian region is at the forefront of the fight against climate change."

"As an important part of the global energy Internet, the Asian Energy Internet is the only way to promote energy transformation in Asia," said Liu Zhenya, chairman of the Cooperation Organization.

At the conference, the cooperative organizations released a series of reports on the research and prospects of the Energy Internet in Asia and other regions, making systematic plans for the development of the energy Internet in Asia based on the need for sustainable development. According to the report, by building the Asian Energy Internet, clean power generation will become the dominant power source in Asia by 2035, and the cost of electricity per capita in Asia will fall by more than 40% by 2050, creating about 180 million jobs.

In the face of the severe test of the COVID-19 epidemic on the global economy, international cooperation to promote green economic recovery is crucial. "How we defeat the epidemic will determine our chances of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, our chances of mitigating climate change." "To achieve a better and stronger recovery, countries need to accelerate the development of clean energy and the transition to low-carbon infrastructure and green jobs," said Liu Zhenmin, UN deputy secretary-general.

In September this year, China proposed at the 75th SESSION of the UN General Assembly that it would strive to peak its carbon dioxide emissions by 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2060. China's position was highly praised by participants. "China is recognized as one of the most responsible members of the international community, with global influence and authority, and as a world leader in the development of alternative and renewable sources of energy," said Norov, secretary-general of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. "China's commitment has been welcomed by the international community as a great power," said Tim Turner, chairman of the Global Energy Transition Council.

The global energy Internet initiative was put forward by China in September 2015 and is now included in the framework of implementing the UN 2030 agenda for sustainable development, promoting the implementation of the Paris Agreement, promoting global environmental governance and jointly building the "One Belt And One Road". In order to encourage all parties to participate in the research, investment and construction of the global energy Internet, the cooperation organization has developed and built a global energy Internet development and cooperation online platform, which will be officially put into operation early next year.
