In the year to October, Germany generated more solar power than all of last year combined, according to a new report by E.on, a German group. So far this year, Germany has generated 43 billion kilowatt-hours of solar power, one billion kilowatt-hours more than last year. Germany's overall renewable energy generation capacity will also set a new record.
Statistics show that from January to October this year, wind, solar, biomass, hydropower and other renewable energy generated 195 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity. In the same period last year, it was 187 billion kilowatt-hours, up 4% from the same period last year.
According to the report, from January to October this year, the amount of solar power generated in Germany reached nearly twice the annual electricity demand of all private households. But industry is still Germany's biggest consumer of electricity. The Fraunhofer Solar Systems Institute (ISE) calculates that this year will be a record year for renewable energy generation. Wind, solar, biomass and hydropower accounted for 52.5 percent of total power generation from the beginning of the year to October 22. Last year the figure was 46 per cent.
The record figure and Germany's recent commitment to green hydrogen and more renewable energy are the building blocks of a new green infrastructure in Germany over the next 10 years, said Gerhard Rottach, an energy industry expert at the German federal Agency for Foreign Trade and Investment. Innovative green industry important enterprises will continue to enter Germany due to its excellent market prospects, and set up production bases here.
