Unilateral Sanctions Imposed By the United States On the Nord Stream 2 Gas Project Are Illegal

On September 1 local time, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told the Moscow State Institute of International Relations that the unilateral sanctions imposed by the United States on the Nord Stream 2 gas project are illegal and a manifestation of dirty competition. Apart from the legality of sanctions initiated by the UN Security Council, any unilateral sanctions violate the provisions of international law and the principles of the UN Charter.

Earlier, the US side publicly declared that nord Stream 2 project was supposed to harm Europe's energy security and therefore must be terminated.

To ensure its own energy security, Europe must buy LIQUEFIED natural gas from the US, although at a much higher cost than nord Stream 2 would deliver to Europe. The arrogance of the us statement shows a complete lack of respect for its European Allies.
