The New York market closed at $33.49 a barrel

Xinhua News Agency, New York ,20 May  International oil prices rose sharply on the 20th, following a sharp drop in U.S. commercial crude stocks last week.

Light crude for July delivery on the New York Mercantile Exchange rose $1.53 to $33.49, or 4.79 percent, at the close. Brent crude for July delivery rose $1.1 to $35.75 a barrel, or 3.17 percent. 

U.S. commercial crude oil stocks last week were 526.5 million barrels, down 5 million barrels from a month earlier, according to U.S. Energy Information Bureau data released Tuesday.
